When my kids grow up..

As I look back and forward in time (something I often do), I can’t help fantasizing about the opportunities I want to give my children. I am not a daddy yet of course and it will take a couple of years before I do become one; but how would I and my girl raise this child? Which values will it take on and how should or shouldn’t it be motivated to see the world? My parents must have felt the same motivation when they became parents and they wanted to expose me to things that they found interesting in life and I am definitely grateful for that. I bet that their parents would have done the same and so on and so on for generations passed.

So what would I teach him or her? The same values that my parents gave me but maybe with a lesser negative view of the big and evil world, even though it is scary out there! Also I would give him/her the opportunity to be multilingual with an extra language or two. Besides English, it will be able to speak Dutch, German and maybe some Spanish and a bit of Wing Dings.

My love for technology will be part of it’s* upbringing too. The way I discovered computing, did my programming on the MSX, and played on the first type of internet called the BBS will be another teaching. As it lies in the crib, the surroundings will be pimped out with some great posters of the world and the universe, images of galaxies and supernovas mixed with the soft tones of our own earth and its continents. The background music will be filled with a soothing collection of music varying from Bach , Mozart to Chicane and Café Del Mar.

Last but not least I will share with it my experience and my view of the world and the history surrounding my experiences. It might sound strange but if you have been following my blog it might not sound surprising that yes, I am looking positively into the future even if it is (at the moment) filled with corrupt governments , greedy bankers, selfish corporations and the random psychopath here and there. Why? Because I know more people like myself are able to discover the world by themselves, have access to a great amount of resources and are being pushed by the rising of the internet and its social aspect to get creative, give an opinion and share.

Viva la revolution. Viva la internet revolution

*As you can see I replaced the ‘him’ and ‘her’ with an IT. This is because I don’t mind if it is a she or a he and my lovely girlfriend is in a bit of sensitive mood this week ;-) , love you baby –x-
